Mariana V. Herrera

PhD Student Philosophy of Science (UNAM)

Short biography

Mariana holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Philosophy of Science from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She currently works as a clinical psychologist who applies a behavioral medicine approach, and she also specializes in third generation therapeutic approaches such as ACT and DBT. In addition, she is a student associate at the Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas (IIF) of the UNAM and actively participates in the annual research gatherings of the Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz (INPRFM).


She has presented her research in clinical Psychology, Art, and Neuroscience at both national and international conventions. Several of her research projects have received recognition and accolades for being the best in their field. She is now pursuing her Ph.D. in Philosophy of Science at UNAM. Her current research focuses on the concept of self as an illusion that arises from the cognitive capacity and method in which human brain organizes the material of first-person experiences. The research areas she focuses on include phenomenal consciousness, art, meditation, the self, and the potential interconnections among them.
